Technical University of Munich, Germany

Biography

Claire, then a biomedical engineering undergraduate at the University of Rochester, was a DAAD RISE (Research Internships in Science and Engineering) fellow at the Chair for Computer Aided Medical Procedures, Technical University of Munich, from June to August 2015, working with PhD candidate Shadi Albarqouni. She developed and compared denoising methods for cryo-electron tomography (cryo-ET), an emerging 3D imaging technique: she studied the theory of denoising cryo-ET data during acquisition, implemented the methods in MATLAB and ran simulations to determine which performed best.

She went on to a PhD in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Minnesota (2024) and is now Technology Development Lead Engineer at SecondWave Systems in St Paul, Minnesota, where she works on an ultrasound transducer platform for automated energy delivery to the spleen to reduce chronic inflammation.
