Master Thesis / Student Assistant (HiWi) — AI in Medical Imaging (m/f/d)
Open call for Master students who want to write their thesis with us or work as student assistants (HiWi) on AI for medical imaging.

The Albarqouni Lab at the University Hospital Bonn and the University of Bonn develops trustworthy and affordable AI for medical imaging — from medical foundation models and federated learning across hospitals to point-of-care imaging. We regularly welcome motivated Master students for their Master thesis and as student assistants (HiWi).
What you will work on
- Real clinical problems with our clinical partners at the University Hospital Bonn, in one of our research areas
- Modern deep learning: foundation and vision-language models, federated learning, uncertainty and fairness
- Code, experiments and — for strong theses — a publication at a conference or in a journal
What we expect
- Enrolment in a Master programme in Computer Science, Data Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Medical Informatics or a related field
- Good programming skills in Python and experience with PyTorch
- A solid background in machine learning; experience with medical images is a plus
- Curiosity, reliability and good communication in English
Master thesis: typically six months, registered at the University of Bonn or as an external thesis with your home university.
Student assistant (HiWi): up to 8 hours per week, with a contract via the University Hospital Bonn; enrolment as a student at a German university is required.
Both: please apply for either a Master thesis or a HiWi position. A combination is possible only in exceptional cases, for example for students with an outstanding record who are relocating to Bonn from another city in Germany. The HiWi position is then on a different topic from the thesis. Places for this are very limited, so please choose “both” only if you really need it; otherwise apply for one of the two.
