Invitations & requests
Work with me
Keynotes, advisory and steering roles, evaluation panels, thesis committees, media and policy requests: what I accept and how to reach me.
I work on trustworthy and affordable AI for medical imaging: federated learning across hospitals, medical foundation and vision–language models, uncertainty, robustness and fairness, and AI for low-resource and global-health settings. I’m happy to bring this to your programme, board or newsroom. One e-mail to shadi.albarqouni@ukbonn.de reaches me for all of the requests below; a few lines on the format, audience and date help me answer quickly.
Keynotes, invited talks and panels
Keynotes, invited lectures, panels and moderation at conferences, universities, hospitals, companies and public events, on site or online, in English, German or Arabic. Past talks and panels are listed on the community page; organisers can download a short and a long speaker biography and a portrait from the documents page.
Advisory, steering and scientific boards
Scientific advisory boards, steering committees and programme committees of research projects, institutes, companies, conferences and networks, in particular on medical AI, federated learning, research infrastructure and capacity building in the Arab world and in low- and middle-income countries. My current roles are listed on my profile.
Evaluation and review
Evaluation of grant proposals and research programmes (I review for the European Commission, DFG, BMFTR, DAAD and SNSF), editorial work for journals, and area-chair, challenge and workshop roles for conferences such as MICCAI. See community service on my profile.
Thesis committees and external examination
External examiner for doctoral and master’s theses and member of thesis advisory committees, in Germany and abroad, including online defences.
Media and science communication
Interviews, background briefings and expert comments for journalists on AI in medicine, data protection and federated learning, and AI for global health. Recent coverage is on the media page; press offices can also reach me through the press office of the University Hospital Bonn.
Policy and public bodies
Briefings, hearings, consultations and position papers for parliaments, ministries, the European Commission and international organisations on medical AI, research partnerships and global health research. As a member of the GLOHRA Steering Committee I already contribute to this work; see science–policy engagement.
