Evening on Germany's Commitment to Global Health Research at the German Bundestag

I attended the evening event at the German Bundestag on global health research and neglected tropical diseases, where Members of Parliament and researchers — including the GLOHRA Steering Committee — discussed how Germany can improve the conditions for interdisciplinary and international global health research.

On 27 June 2024 I was at the German Bundestag for the event „Deutschlands Engagement für Forschung zu Globaler Gesundheit“ (Germany’s commitment to global health research), held under the patronage of Ruppert Stüwe, Member of the Bundestag, and co-organised by the Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine (BNITM), the German Society for Tropical Medicine (DTG) and the German Network against Neglected Tropical Diseases (DNTD).

The evening presented a new BMBF-commissioned study on the contribution of German research institutions to the fight against neglected tropical diseases, followed by a panel on how Germany can improve the framework for interdisciplinary and international global health research. Members of Parliament Georg Kippels, Ottmar von Holtz and Andrew Ullmann (chair of the Subcommittee on Global Health) took part, and members of the GLOHRA Steering Committee sat on the panel. Details are in the press invitation.

It was my first visit to the Bundestag in my role on the GLOHRA Steering Committee; I returned for the Parliamentary Evenings in 2025 and in 2026.
