Took part in a virtual meeting of the new Helmholtz International Lab “Causal Cell Dynamics”, led by Fabian Theis (Helmholtz Munich) and Yoshua Bengio (Mila), on AI and causal modelling for single-cell data.

On 29 April 2021 I took part, as a group leader at Helmholtz Munich, in a virtual meeting of the Helmholtz International Lab “Causal Cell Dynamics”, a partnership between Helmholtz Munich and Mila – Quebec AI Institute. The lab is led by Fabian Theis (Institute of Computational Biology, Helmholtz Munich) and Yoshua Bengio (Mila) and combines single-cell genomics with machine learning and causal modelling to understand how cells behave in diseases such as diabetes, cancer and COVID-19. It is co-funded for five years by the Helmholtz Initiative and Networking Fund (Helmholtz news, 29 April 2021).
