We have just wrapped up an inspiring week of the BILD Summer School 2025 in Tunis, and I could not be more grateful for the people and partnerships that made this possible.

A heartfelt thank you to the University of Tunis El Manar, represented by the Rector Prof. Moez CHAFRA and his vice rectors, for their warm welcome and strong support of this initiative. Your presence was an honor and an encouragement to all of us.

My sincere gratitude also goes to my co-organizers, Prof. Monia Najar, Bareen Haval, and Prof. Hussein F. HASSAN, PhD, for their trust and collaboration!

I would like to thank all the speakers and lecturers, Prof. Nassir Navab, Prof. Vasileios Belagiannis, Prof. Islem Rekik, Prof. Ezzeddine Zagrouba, Prof. Hanene Boussi, and Dr. Narjes Ben ameur, Dr. Aditya Rastogi, Dr. Lara Marie Reimer, Leon Nissen, and Rached Abdelkhalek for their amazing talks and lectures.

A special thanks to the tutors: David D. Gaviria, Diletta Chiaro, Ph.D., Elyes Farjallah, Hadil AFFES, and Sarra Guirat for preparing and tutoring a couple of exercises and hands-on sessions during the summer school.

Thanks to our participants, who made it from Lebanon, Iraq, Germany (Ulm, Essen, Munich, and Bonn), and multiple cities in Tunisia (Tunis, Bizerte, Sousse, Sfax, and Kebili), for their dedication and curiosity!

Each of you contributed your expertise, energy, and enthusiasm, turning this event into a true success story.

Highlights of the week:

  • Engaging lectures that bridged theory and real-world applications in biomedical imaging and AI.
  • Hands-on sessions where students trained, tested, and discussed DL models—exploring both the challenges and opportunities of deep learning in medical imaging.
  • Special Hands-on Sessions on MONAI Labels from NVIDIA (Rached Abdelkhalek) and Mobile Medical AI App Development (Lara Marie Reimer and Leon Nissen)
  • Networking events that fostered meaningful connections and future collaborations across countries and disciplines.

This summer school once again underscored the core mission of the SANAD Project: knowledge exchange and building sustainable networks.

This won’t happen without the support of our medical faculty at the Universitätsklinikum Bonn, represented by the Dean, Prof. Bernd Weber, and the DAAD German Academic Exchange Service, with funds from the Auswärtiges Amt (Federal Foreign Office) Germany in Germany.

We look forward to seeing the seeds planted in Tunis grow into lasting collaborations and innovations!
